Celebrate Good Times, Come On!

Rev Muriel BurrowsThe song, Celebration, by Kool and the Gang has been going through my mind these last few days as we draw closer to October 2nd. What a day of worship and praise it will be as members of Witherspoon Church and Nassau Church gather with friends at McCarter Theatre to kick off a year of celebration!

What are we celebrating? I’m glad you asked. We are celebrating 250 years of a Presbyterian presence in Princeton which began in 1756 with the establishment of the College of New Jersey which later became Princeton University. The Word of God will be brought to us by our very own Rev. Dr. Brian Blount, Richard J. Dearborn Professor of New Testament Interpretation at Princeton Theological Seminary.

Part of the celebration will include the presentation of the four magnificent banners that folk from both Witherspoon and Nassau designed and stitched. The banners tell the stories of our faith and our history and our commitment to ministry in this corner of God’s vineyard. The banners will be carried into the worship service by youth from both congregations and hung on the stage. Over the next year the banners will hang, two in each church, as a commemoration of our past, a salute to our present and a salute to our future, and will be brought together again at our closing ceremony at McCarter Theatre on September 30, 2006.

Celebrate good times, come on! We have a series of programs planned for the year – musical, lectures and worship services – some at Witherspoon and some at Nassau. I encourage you to participate in and attend as many of these programs as possible. A calendar of events will be distributed in our bulletins and church newsletter and will be available on the website. Be a part of the celebration. Be a part of the story. Be a part of the ongoing mission and ministry of the Holy Spirit through the Presbyterian Church in Princeton. Grace and peace to you in the name of our Lord and Savior..
