March 2007

The Witherspoon Futures Committee is sponsoring a theater party at the McCarter Theatre on Sunday, March 25, 2007 for the 2:00 p.m. matinee production of "Radio Golf", August Wilson's last play. Tickets are $50. per person; proceeds will benefit the Robeson House Fund. A dialogue about drama with the actors and a private reception will follow. This production is appropriate for ages 12 and up.

"Radio Golf" will be directed by Kenny Leon and will feature performances by Television, Stage, and Film actor Harry Lennix (Fox's "24", Stomp the Yard, and Ray), and Tony Award-winner Tonya Pinkins (Jelly's Last Jam, Caroline, or Change and TV's All My Children) and one of Oprah Winfrey's "Ten Women in America Who will Take Your Breath Away".

In the sequel to August Wilson's acclaimed Gem of the Ocean, we return to the Pittsburgh Hill District in 1997. Harmond Wilks is a successful real estate developer and mayoral candidate with a plan to revitalize the neighborhood. But when Aunt Ester's house at 1839 Wylie Avenue is slated for demolition, a stranger claiming ownership appears, forcing Wilks to confront his relationship with his heritage.

Infused by the spirits and dreams of generations past, Radio Golf is a powerful, contemporary play that completes Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winner August Wilson's extraordinary 20th century cycle of the African-American experience.

We have reserved 200 seats and are asking every member who is able to purchase or sell at least four tickets! You may reserve your tickets with Paul Stephens or with Ben or Deborah Colbert.
